Tonight we are staying at the Hotel Xaluca. It is gorgeous. It is part of a chain of 5 hotels in Morocco owned and designed by a local company. The architecture and construction reminds us of a US National Park hotel. It is mostly made of wood and stone with local art pieces and what looks like hand-hewn paneling on the walls and ceilings.
Today was a road day riding from Merzouga, Morocco to here in Lac Aguelmane. Yesterday was a very busy and fantastic day with several stops ending in camel rides in the desert and sleeping in a very modern tent at Auberge du sud. The camel ride sounds corny but it was a lot of fun. We even got wrapped up in turbans for the ride. Susie had her own camel and I rode another one. Getting on and off was a riot. Neither one of us fell off and Susie's back did fine. The guide of our camel group was funny and spoke more English than he first let on.

One of the stops yesterday was at top of the Dades Canyon. It's one of the classic rides in Morocco called the Little Stelvio after the Stelvio Pass in Italy. The ride had several hairpin turns and a narrow road to keep our attention.
Yesterday also included a barbeque lunch prepared by our guide Rade and his 2 assistants out in the middle of the desert on public land. They set up a barbeque, prepared a Moroccan salad and it was delicious. Something about eating barbeque out in the open air makes it better.
Yesterday we made a stop at the Todgha River Gorge. It was pretty dramatic and got very busy when we were leaving.
Tomorrow we ride to Fez for 2 nights. That will be nice to rest up.
Check in at today's hotel.
