Sunday, July 9, 2023 - Berlin

Sooz and I have been under the weather for a few days sharing a pretty good cold.  Sooz has gone to the pharmacy a few times and bought us some meds but it just comes down to riding it out.  We escaped our hotel room Friday afternoon to visit the 100 Year Anniversary of BMW Motorrad and that was fun.  The event was held at a large outdoor/indoor convention center and they took over the entire facility.  There was a nice selection of all the BMW motorcycles, vintage bikes, custom bikes and some vendors.  The weather was hot and I was not feeling great so we made the rounds and headed out.

Sooz climbed on a new 850 GS motorcycle to see how it feels and somewhere between getting on and off she scraped her leg pretty good and it started bleeding.  We asked a BMW rep for directions to the care center and he took control for us.  He was a very nice man and stayed with us the entire time.  He even got us some free merch.  It was only later that he mentioned that he was the product manager for the 2023 850 GS.

We are starting to feel better and plan on leaving Berlin tomorrow morning heading towards Calais, France where we will take a ferry to Dover, England.  It's about 600 miles to Calais and we will take our time, giving ourselves 3 days.  If we need to take an extra day or so, we will.

We have not felt well enough to hit the tourist spots in Berlin, but we have gotten to know our local neighborhood pretty well and really like it.  It's very comfortable, pretty low key and easy to get around.

We really liked this riding gear made by the guy below.  The gear is nicely made with good looking materials and includes protective armor.  A 2-piece suit costs about $1,000 so we held off for now ...

This is the guy who made the gear we liked so much.  He started his company, North of Berlin, 3 years ago after working for BMW.  You can find his gear at www.badandbold.com

We lucked out by meeting Tom Cruise promoting his new MI movie.  Some people say he resembles me, but I don't see it.
