September 22, 2019 - Balquhidder, Lochearnhead, Perthshire, Scotland
We packed up, loaded the bike, had breakfast, checked out of the Haymarket Hub Motel in Edinburgh and hit the road around 10 am. The weather was overcast, light rain and around 57 degrees as we headed towards the Stirling Castle. We did a quick stop at the castle mainly to add warmer gear, took a quick look at the castle and got back on the road. Today's route took us west to Lock Lomond. We took A82 North along the western edge of Loch Lomond. We stopped at a very quaint place called Auchentullich Farm Shop for hot chocolate, tea and banana bread.
We continued north towards our reserved room. The road was very good, well-maintained and two lanes. Traffic moved right along with quite a few cars. A light rain continued on and off but nothing serious. I'm getting more comfortable driving on the left side of the road. I'm fine in the roundabouts and left turns. I'm still a little hesitant turning right from a turn lane crossing traffic. It helps when there are other cars to follow.
We took a short detour to the Falls of Falloch. Nothing too dramatic but very relaxing and nice to see.
We arrived at our motel around 3 pm. It is called the Mhor 84 Motel and dates back to 1746. We are staying in a small cottage away from the main building and restaurant. It's a very comfortable room.
We had dinner in the hotel dining room and were blown away by the meal; by far the best meal so far on this trip. I had the roast beetroot risotto, Lamar blue cheese, rocket and nasturtium salad. I don't know half the ingredients but it was delicious. Sooz had the wild bass, pea and pickled walnut linguine and it too was great. For dessert we both had the bitter chocolate and orange tart, kumquat puree and ginger ice cream. Pictures below of the motel, dining room and dessert.
Tomorrow we are going to visit Rob Roy's grave and then head north to Pitlochry, ride along the west side of Loch Ness and stay overnight in Inverness. We
so....time to find a HAUNTED castle or two, t ;)
