Chefchaouen, Morocco - November 12-13, 2025

We arrived in Chefchaouen yesterday afternoon.  The ride was nice, good weather and good roads.  Some of the group continued on to the Mediterranean but we decided to go directly to our HOTEL.  It is beautiful located above Chefchaouen, which is known as the Blue City.

We had a nice lunch of salad and swordfish at the hotel and then went out to dinner in town.  It turned out one the group, Mark, had his birthday yesterday so we all wore goofy hats and sang him happy birthday.  At dinner we sat out on a terrace overlooking the City with a guitar player playing mostly American folk music.  Our guide Reda knew and sang all of the words to The Gambler by Kenny Rogers.  We were making so much noise another tour group of Germans came over to meet us.  They were surprised that we were all from the U.S.  I guess they didn't think Americans could act silly and have fun.

Sooz took a couple of great pictures during our ride yesterday that capture some of the landscape.  It's beautiful.  Tomorrow we head Azrou.  Weather forecasts say it will be cold and wet tomorrow.

Today is a rest day off the motorcycle.  We walked down to the main square only getting lost 3 or 4 times.  The medina area has narrow streets and walkways with many turns and dead ends.  I don't think Google Maps has been able to capture all of the twists and turns.  Luckily, the entire downtown medina area is off limits to cars and trucks so it's pretty safe to walk.

One thing we had noticed in Morocco is that in the heavy tourist areas the guys hawking goods or trying to entice you into their restaurants or shops are pretty civil.  They will approach and do they pitch but if you tell them you are not interested they will back off and be pleasant about it.  Much different than other places we have visited.  We have not felt threatened or unsafe anywhere.

Sooz and I drank mint tea and watched the world go by for an hour today in the main square.  If you look close you can see a movie production truck in the back and a couple of guys all dressed in blue that are part of a Russian movie production
