Balkans September 10, 2018 Trieste, Italy

9:00 pm. We had beautiful weather to ride from Bohinj, Slovenia through Triglav National Park, crossing the Vrsic Pass and ending in Trieste, Italy. Lots of riding but it was gorgeous.
The roads were in good shape overall but I have a picture below showing the change in road conditions leaving Slovenia and entering Italy.  There was no formal border crossing just a couple of signs and a much poorer road condition in Italy.
We both think the drive south on 206 from Kranjska Gora through Vrsic Pass and into Italy was one of the best rides, if not the best ride, we have ever taken.  The combination of roads in good condition, twisty, windy sections, steep beautiful mountains with shear cliffs, quaint small towns, and comfortable, sunny, dry mountain air was a winner.  We even had aome close encounters with cows right at the top of Vrsic Pass.
Getting into Trieste it was in the mid 80s and full sun, and we were hot and tired.  We considered continuing on mainly due to the size of the city, it was bigger and busier than we anticipated.  But we found a nice hotel, had a great Italian dinner, found some classic gelato and crashed.
Not sure where we are going tomorrow,  somewhere south along the coast, just not sure exactly where.
