Balkans September 11, 2018 Piran, Slovenia

8:30 pm.  Sitting outside our little apartment on the Adriatic Sea in Piran, Slovenia. How did this happen?  Sometimes Sooz and I look at each other and can't believe how lucky we are to be able to travel like this.  It is beyond what we thought we would be able to do at this point in our lives, or ever.
We rode here from Trieste, a short drive. The scooter drivers in Trieste are absolutely insane.  They weave through traffic, cut in front of anyone and always split lanes to get to the head of traffic, especially at stop lights.  And they only have 2 speeds; off and full bore.  We stopped at a red light and before the light turned green we had 2 scooters next to us in our lane and 5 scooters side by side in the lane next to us.  When the light turned green it was like the start of the Indy 500.  Everyone was full throttle hauling ass and I could hardly keep up.  I was going so fast the front end of the GS came up in 3rd gear and still one of the scooters was ahead of us weaving through traffic.  Sooz and I were just giggling, it was fun.
Piran is a small seafront town that is not too busy and has a nice feel.  Still lots of tourists but not crammed in, it's an easy and fun town to walk around in.
Our apartment is right across from the sea.  Sooz and I went swimming in the Adriatic for the first time in our lives.  The water is crystal clear and refreshing, cool, but not cold.  We walked into the old part of town and had sea bass, calamari and a fresh salad.  It was delicious. The tomatoes here are unreal, flavorful and a deep dark red.
