Today we rode a total of 175 miles from Field, BC to Jasper stopping at Takakkaw Falls. Today was the first day of the season that the entire road to Takakkaw was open, so we lucked out. After the falls, we headed up the Icefield Parkway (Highway 93) north to Jasper.
Both rides to Takakkaw and Jasper were beautiful - mostly 2-laned, surrounded by snow covered mountains and just a few short showers. Temps were in the 40s and 50s with no wind to speak of. We got an early start to the falls and did not see much traffic but by the time we left the parking area was beginning to fill up.
The Icefield Parkway is one we all have heard about. It lived up to its reputation, however, there was a fair amount of traffic, even this early in the season. In total, we saw a brown bear, and three deer that we decided were mule deer. All traffic stopped for the brown bear turning both directions of the road into a traffic jam.
Tomorrow we turn around and head south ultimately landing in Canmore for 3 nights.
