June 16,2026 - Canmore, Alberta

Today was a fun and beautiful day.  We first rode from Canmore to a very twisty road that led to a ski resort called Mount Norquay.  The weather was gorgeous and people were riding the chairlift to the top and then doing rock climbing with a guide.  We decided to not do this.  There was also a nice view of the town of Banff.

On the way down the mountain we met a group of Big Horn Sheep casually walking across the road and eating on a steep rock slope directly off the road.  One of the big ones was very close to us and gave me the stink eye so we moved on, right after Sooz took a nice picture of it.  We never got off the bikes and of course we never attempted to feed them.

Next, we rode into Banff, walked around a lot, tried to find parking, shopped and had lunch.  They were completing a half-marathon race so the town was very crowded and several of the roads were blocked off.  The town is very touristy, as expected, with mostly high end retailers.  There are a lot of restaurants.

After Banff we rode to Lake Louise and had take-out coffee at the Fairmont Chateau.  We had take-out because we were not registered at the hotel so we were not allowed to enter the restaurant seating area.  I had tried to get lunch reservations but they were booked.  We were definitely not part of the upper crust and they let us know it.  So, we took our coffees and did some good people watching by the lake.  It seemed very busy to us, but I can't imagine what it must be like during peak season.

Tomorrow Sooz and I ride into Calgary to get a new rear tire at the BMW shop, check into our hotel and then meet Abigail Barth for dinner at her place. We start riding to Yellowstone Park on Tuesday. Ted and Sheila turn their rental motorcycle in and check into a hotel before their flight home to Florida on Tuesday.  It's really been a great time traveling with Ted and Sheila.

Not sure where or why I took this selfie.
