Today is why we ride motorcycles. Before we left Great Falls we visited The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center located on the Missouri River. We spent about 1.5 hours and really enjoyed it. It's hard to place ourselves in the early 1800s and never having been west of the Mississippi River. It's incredible they were able to make it to the Pacific Ocean and back.
We then headed south for 175 miles of incredibly beautiful, wide open country. We saw a few buffalo and one deer, but most of the time was spent taking in huge expanses of rolling plains and grasslands. The scale is hard to capture in words or pictures. We would come up over a ridge on a 2-lane road and look down on miles and miles of openness. I love experiencing that vastness from a motorcycle and am lucky that Susie does also. After awhile, we just stopped talking about it and tried to take it all in.
We landed in a small, owner occupied motel called the Lazy J Motel in Big Timber, MT. It's nothing fancy, but the room is large and very clean. Not sure what we're going to do for dinner.
Tomorrow we continue heading towards Yellowston Park where we have a room reserved for Friday and Saturday. The last leg of the ride before Yellowstone will be on the Beartooth Highway which is highly recommended by other motorcyclists.
